The Modular Synthesizer knows no age limits

At the Winarskystrasse Day Center  of the Vienna Social Fund (FSW), senior citizens – sponsored by the City of Vienna Culture – got an insight into the world of electronic music.

Together with the freelance musician and artist Gammon, who visited the facility with his socio-acoustic and participatory music project “Modular Synthesizer Ensemble”, they “sniffed” into a new world:

Initial skepticism and fear of contact on the part of the senior citizens were quickly dispelled by the professional and empathetic guidance as well as great curiosity on the part of the participants.
In the workshop, they then experimented and composed a joint piece of music, which was also recorded and presented at the end of the day.
“At the beginning, I was skeptical and didn’t know what to expect. There were so many buttons and switches that we operated. But little by little, we all created a really beautiful piece of music together,” said one proud workshop participant.
At the end of the day, the joy of the shared experience was palpable on all sides, as the senior citizens were visibly surprised by their new experiences and the result they had achieved.
